Hlanti’s Kaizer Chiefs contract talks in limbo

Sifiso Hlanti’s contract expires at the end of the season. The club has an option to extend it by a year but there’s no indication they’ll trigger that. According to a Phakaaathi source, Hlanti is one of the top earners at Naturena and the top brass don’t believe his stay should be extended. Hlanti’s future could, however, depend on whether the club can find a suitable replacement to compete with Happy Mashiane. The name of Stellenbosch star Fawaaz Basadien has constantly come up.

Is Basadien discussing an extension with Stellies?

According to various local reports, 27-year-old left-back Fawaaz Basadien, a reported target of Kaizer Chiefs, is in contract talks with Stellenbosch to extend his current deal.

“Stellenbosch FC have confirmed they are currently in talks with left-back Fawaz Basadien over a new long-term contract, amid interest from Gauteng,” SABC’s Mazola Molefe reported.

“According to information gathered by SABC Sport, the former Moroka Swallows defender has attracted the attention of Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, although the big guns have not initiated any formal bids just yet.

“We’re in positive discussions with him to renew on a longer-term, but we do have him secured for another 18 months at this stage,” said the club’s CEO Rob Benadie.
