According to the Ghanaian journalist Mickey Arthur, Santos has been given the clear to speak to Kaizer Chiefs.

“Assistant coach at Petro de Luanda confirmed that the Club has given his boss, Alexandre Santos the permission to speak to Kaizer Chiefs over a possible move to South Africa,” Arthur reported.

“Santos’ contract ends just next month. He refused a new deal from the Angolan giants. Who is the ideal coach for Amakhosi ahead of next season?” the reporter concluded.

According to iDiski Times, Kaizer Chiefs have made Santos the leading favourite.

Santos, who is set to leave Angolan giants Petro de Luanda soon, has emerged as the leading candidate to join Kaizer Chiefs.

The outlet exclusively reported: “Outgoing Petro de Luanda head coach Alexandre Santos has emerged as a frontrunner for the vacant Kaizer Chiefs job, and he could potentially bring a new era of success to the club.”

“Angolan media reported recently that Santos (47) will not continue with Petro as he has not reached the semi-finals of the CAFCL this season, his contract with the club expires at the end of this current season,” iDiski Times added.

The publication also added that Kaizer Chiefs will battle Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca for Santos’s signature.

Santos was born in Portugal 47 years ago. Santos won two league titles with Petro de Luanda (soon to win a third before June). He also reached the CAF Champions League semi-finals in the past two seasons.

Before moving to Angola, Santos cut his teeth in Europe, Asia and North Africa.
