Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be pressing ahead with their transfer plans for next season.

Chiefs opted not to make any signings in the January transfer window, with expected to change in the next window.

During the last transfer window, Chiefs had been linked with the likes of Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch FC. Oswin Appollis of Polokwane City has also made the list as well as Riaan Hanamub of AmaZulu. Another player that was linked with the club is attacker Tashreeq Matthews, who ended up signing with rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. In the goal keeping department, they have also been heavily linked to Nigerian international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili.

Additionally, the likes of Sage Stephens and Siphesihle Mkhize also recently made the Chiefs list. But with what team manager Bobby Motaung had said, none joined in January.  But that stance hasn’t prevented Chiefs from planning ahead. Now according to Soccer-Laduma Amakhosi are interested in signing Kegan Johannes from SuperSport United

Chiefs ready to bid for Johannes?

“The club is interested in Kegan (Johannes). They have been monitoring him for some time now and they would really want to have him at the start of next season. Even last season before signing Given Msimango and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and even Luke Fleurs, they wanted Johannes but they could not get him and that’s why he is back on the radar now,” said one source.

Another source from the publication says that Chiefs will have to discard a few defenders before signing Johannes.

Need to offload players first?

“It’s true they want Kegan (Johannes) but they are also looking at releasing some players in the team so that they can open up some space for new arrivals. They don’t want to have too big a squad which will have problems. They need to maintain order and happiness among players for them to perform. So some players will be released at the end of the season before they can bring in players like Johannes,” said the source.

The likes of Njabulo Ngcobo and Edmilson Dove both have their Chiefs deals running out. Will that duo make way for Johannes?
