Kaizer Chiefs suffer injury blow as Khune limps off the pitch!

Kaizer Chiefs have suffered a huge injury blow after Itumeleng Khune had to be substituted in the first half against Stellenbosch FC.

Kaizer Chiefs have suffered a huge injury blow after Itumeleng Khune had to be substituted in the first half against Stellenbosch FC on Sunday.

Khune injured his groin when he conceded in 33rd minute, and soon after the goal, the veteran goalkeeper received medical attention.

He was able to continue with the game but it wasn’t long before he could be replaced by Brandon Petersen in the 38th minute.

It is unclear at this stage how long Khune will be out for, but the injury will certainly be a setback for the man who’s just reclaimed the No.1 spot at Chiefs.

KHUNE’S INJURY A BLESSING IN DISGUISE FOR PETERSEN AND BVUMA?

Khune’s injury setback can be seen as a blessing in disguise for both Petersen and Bruce Bvuma.

The two goalkeepers were brought into the Chiefs first team as long-term replacements for the ageing Khune.

Bvuma, specifically, featured in the first few games of the season but he was relegated to the stands on the back of Amakhosi’s 4-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Khune then came in and stabilized the Chiefs defence with his experience, and his injury means either Petersen or Bvuma will be starting in goals going forward.
