Kaizer Chiefs began their MTN8 title challenge this evening when they visited the Athlone Stadium to face Cape Town City FC.

The Glamour Boys earned a dramatic 2-1 victory over Eric Tinkler’s side, a first victory of the season for the club!

Next up for Kaizer Chiefs in the semi-finals is a two-legged clash against rivals Mamelodi Sundowns!

Kaizer Chiefs draw Mamelodi Sundowns in MTN8 semi-final

The Glamour have lost seven out of their previous nine matches against Mamelodi Sundowns!

Their most recent defeat came just a few days ago however it must be noted, it was indeed one of their better performances against the Brazilians in recent years.

“We also want to give confidence to the supporters and ourselves as the club. We are looking forward to doing our best in this tournament. So, if things work out well, we’ll be the first one to win this trophy.” the Kaizer Chiefs head coach told reporters.

“I think it’s good motivation for all of us. The new players and new technical team should look at it as an opportunity to say ‘let’s win this one and get settled’.

“We are looking that way, to say ‘It’s a competition and it’s 11 v 11, tactically and mentally’. We are ready as a team. And having scored a goal yesterday (Wednesday) brings confidence in the team to say ‘Yes, we can score goals’. Scoring goals will be the most important part.”
