Kaizer Chiefs: Dolly, the fringe player earning freakish money

There are plenty of pretty big numbers but not a lot of this is adding up.

Keagan Dolly is the top earner at Kaizer Chiefs but the role he plays within the squad no longer reflects that.

Why Keagan Dolly is no longer a key Kaizer Chiefs player

Dolly is dining out on his reputation

There’s no doubt that Keagan Dolly was a superb footballer at his peak. He even strutted around Ligue 1 in France with Montpellier for a while, but injuries and a loss of form have seen his stock drop drastically. Like Khama Billiat, this guy is a shadow of his former self.

Rare appearances and poor output

No player should ever be blamed for injuries, but unfortunately, Dolly’s chequered record in that regard means he’s not a reliable option for the coaching staff. Just 66 outings for Kaizer Chiefs since he signed in July 2021 just isn’t going to cut it.

Overpaid and underperforming has become the norm for Kaizer Chiefs

Dolly has made only six league appearances this term, contributing zero goals and one assist. Dolly pulls in R1.4m a month, making him the best-paid player at Naturena by a comfortable distance. We even jokingly worked out how much Hellmann’s mayonnaise you can buy with that kinda money. It’s a lot. Jokes aside though, Dolly needs to contribute more if he has any chance of being at the club next season.
