Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson surprised supporters in the week. Zitha Kwinika played at right-back ahead of the highly-rated Dillon Solomons.

WHY KAIZER CHIEFS COACH JOHNSON PICKED KWINIKA

Amakhosi‘s first-choice right-back, Reeve Frosler, was unavailable on Tuesday against Golden Arrows.

Instead of selecting his number two option, Solomons, Chiefs coach Johnson went for his central defender, Kwinika.

“There’s nothing wrong with Reeve and there’s nothing wrong with Dillon, but Zitha has always given me the back-up, even though he’s a centre-back,” Johnson said, as quoted by iDiskiTimes.

“You probably know that. He gives me backup as a right-back as well, sometimes you have to play with God, hey. Play him at right back and he does a job for you and he doesn’t do a bad job, you bring him back again.

The Chiefs coach Johnson added: “Reeve had a slight knock, not really something to take him out but we put caution to the wind as far as that position is concerned and the last two games Zitha has done really well, we haven’t had any major crosses from the right, no major player skinned him.

“He does the job that the right-back has to do so we’ll see in the future, maybe he goes back to his position at centre-back, he’s a 4×2, and he can play centre or on the right,” the Chiefs tactician concluded.
