Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly banned Itumeleng Khune from excessively using social media in an attempt to help him focus on his game.

KickOff.Com reports that Khune was asked by Chiefs to slow down on either posting or replying to his fans on social media.

And while it is unclear as to when Khune and Chiefs had the said discussion, it is evident that both parties are in agreement as the goalkeeper hasn’t posted anything since February 1, 2021.

“It was not for bad intentions by the club but to help the player [Khune] focus on his soccer career,” says a KickOff.com source.

“The player has taken the club’s action in good spirits and there are no issues.”

Khune struggled for form in the first few games he featured under Gavin Hunt this season, and he was subsequently, stripped of the captaincy armband on February 17.

While the technical team’s intentions were questioned at the time, the latest developments could mean Hunt was just trying to take the pressure off his goalkeeper.

That’s because Khune played four of Amakhosi’s five matches in February – including two CAF Champions League matches against Horoya AC and Wydad Casablanca.

The news of Khune being banned from social media by the Chiefs management come just weeks after three of the team’s players were caught on camera while on their cellphones during an official match.

Willard Katsande, Reeve Frosler, and Siphelele Ntshangase were those busy on their cellphones as their Chiefs teammates battled SuperSport United two weeks ago.

Chiefs are yet to make an official comment on the incident, and it’s still not clear if those players would be hauled before the club’s disciplinary committee.
