Doc Khumalo is the latest high-profile target for phone scams

Speaking to SoccerLaduma, the former Bafana star revealed he was alerted to the situation when one of his contacts received a suspicious message from his number.

“I want everyone out there to know that my phone number has been hacked and I am working very hard to find out who did this and get to the bottom of it. This person is sending messages to my contacts, and it looks like they are trying to hack them too.

“Everyone who has my number will know none of the messages allegedly sent by me sound original. The way this person addresses people is definitely not how I do things but, unfortunately, not everyone pays attention to such details. I don’t want anyone to fall victim because there might be more messages and requests made on my behalf when I know nothing about it,” said the 56-year-old legend.

Cellphone scammers have been targeting PSL players and coaches for some time. The likes of George Maluleka, Katlego Mphela, Themba Zwane, Ronwen Williams and Andile Jali are just a handful of recent examples.

Junior Khanye, who’s never shy to weigh in with an opinion or two, didn’t enjoy the low block that South Africa employed to stifle the Cape Verde side’s attacks.

“But, when it comes to playing, we were terrible. We were defending too much. I think yesterday’s game was our worst at the tournament when I look at the other matches. I don’t think that we were at our best, any team can beat us. Look at the chances that Cape Verde created, it’s all luck. Any of those chances could have easily gone in. But again, we have to say thank you to our defence. They did a very important job despite Cape Verde creating chances.”
