Kaizer Chiefs: Amakhosi legend heading out of Naturena in January!

Kaizer Chiefs fans look away. An Amakhosi legend is set to leave Naturena in January after serving the club for well over a decade.

Kaizer Chiefs fans look away. An Amakhosi legend is set to leave Naturena in January after serving the club for well over a decade.

Siphiwe Tshabalala, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Bernard Parker are some of the most recent Amakhosi legends to leave Naturena.

Fast forward to today and there are only two Chiefs legends left standing – Itumeleng Khune and Erick Mathoho. So, which one of these men are headed out of Naturena in January?

CHIEFS LEGEND HEADING OUT OF NATURENA IN JANUARY

Erick Mathoho is linked with a possible exit out of Naturena as soon as January, according to Phakaaati.

Therefore, Amakhosi’s legend is facing his final days with Chiefs.

“To be honest, there’s no place for Tower (Erick Mathoho) in the centre back position. If he is not released in January, he’ll definitely leave the club at the end of the season,” the relevant source stated.

The same source confirmed that he could be let go of in January.

MATHOHO’S TIME AT NATURENA HAS BEEN RUNNING OUT

Mathoho has been reduced to a spectator, watching Amakhosi’s PSL games from the reserves for several months now.

Therefore, since Zwane and Dillon Sheppard took over, he has fallen far down the pecking order. Zitha Kwinika, Njabulo Ngcobo and Siyabonga Ngezana are all preferred while even new recruit Edmilson Dove is ahead of the veteran.

However, Mathoho will always be remembered as a club legend.

The ‘Tower’ spent the better part of a decade as one of the best defenders in the DStv Premiership. Known for his towering headers, solid blocks at the back and even harder tackling, he is an all-time great.

However, in recent seasons he has been a shadow of his former self.

Several costly errors saw him dropped to the reserves and it does not seem like Amakhosi management want to change this at all. Understandably so, Zwane and Sheppard are focused on building the younger talent in this squad.

Mathoho is not the only Chiefs player whose days are numbered.
