Kaitano Tembo lambasts ‘stupid’ Luke Fleurs for red card

SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo has hit out at defender Luke Fleurs for the ‘stupid’ manner in which he was sent off against Royal AM in their DStv Premiership clash on Tuesday.

Matsatsantsa were leading 1-0 thanks to Thamsanqa Gabuza’s 30th-minute strike, but the game turned on its head shortly after half-time.

Fleurs received his first yellow-carded for a bad tackle and then picked up his second bookable offence just minutes later for throwing the ball away after conceding a free-kick.

It allowed Royal AM back into the and the KwaZulu-Natal side scored two goals in stoppage time to complete a dramatic turnaround to win 2-1.

Post-match Kaitano Tembo expressed unhappiness with the 23-year-old, especially for his petulance in picking up the second yellow.

“I think the game changed when Luke Fleurs got booked [for a second yellow card]. I think it was a stupid thing to do, throwing the ball away knowing that you are on a yellow card.

“For me that is the moment which changed everything and I’m very disappointed in that.”

SuperSport United are fourth in the standings ith 15 points after nine matches.

They will next be in action when they host TS Galaxy on Friday, 5 November at 17:30.
