Winless in EIGHT games: Are Gavin Hunt’s days numbered at Chippa United?

Chippa United suffered yet another league defeat, this time succumbing to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Cape Town City on Wednesday.

Chippa United suffered yet another league defeat, this time succumbing to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Cape Town City on Wednesday.

The game looked to be headed for a goalless draw until Abdul Ajagun struck the winner in the 89th minute to steal all the points for the Citizens.

The result left Chippa United in 14th place with just six points from their opening nine league matches.

And this has certainly put Gavin Hunt under immense pressure, especially given Chippa Mpengesi’s lack of patience when it comes to underperforming coaches.

Since Hunt arrived at the start of the season, Chippa United have won just once in nine games, and the win came in his first game in charge against Sekhukhune United.

The win was followed by a goalless draw against Mamelodi Sundowns – and in total Chippa United have lost five matches and drawn the other three.

And this is a cause for concern, and Hunt could find himself without a job if Chippa United don’t start winning their games.

Hunt was fired for the first in his almost three-decade of coaching by Kaizer Chiefs in May 2021, and he is facing his second sacking in less than six month.

Chippa United will be at home against Maritzburg United on Sunday, 7 November.
