Former Kaizer Chiefs star Junior Khanye has weighed in on Percy Tau’s headline transfer from English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion to Al Ahly.

Khanye expressed his disappointment in the former Mamelodi Sundowns star for returning to Africa after a difficult spell in the English Premier League.

Percy Tau joined former mentor Pitso Mosimane at Al Ahly in a deal reportedly worth over R30 million rand but Junior Khanye who currently works as an analyst for Idiski Times was rather critical of it.

Junior Khanye disappointed in Percy Tau after Al Ahly move

“For me, I’m very disappointed with the boy. I know coach Pitso Mosimane believes in him and is the one who brought the best out in him.” Junior Khanye told Kick-off regarding Percy Tau’s move.

“But remember, Percy had already graduated, and to me, he cannot go backwards. I’m sure there’s a lot he has also learned as he featured in one of the top leagues in the world.

“He’s learning a lot of things, and him being in the Premier League was beneficial for South Africa and to him as well individually.”

Graham Potter ‘understands’ why Tau left Brighton

“I have really enjoyed working with Percy Tau. He is very professional and extremely popular with the rest of the squad, but at this stage of his career he wants to be playing regularly and we fully understand that,” Brighton boss Graham Potter said regarding Percy Tau’s exit at the club.

“This move gives him the opportunity to do that and he is joining one of Africa’s top clubs. On behalf of everyone at the club I wish him well for the future.”

Percy Tau will now link up with former mentor Pitso Mosimane and the Bafana Bafana star will undoubtedly be a critical figure for Al Ahly.

Tau will be expected to return the Egyptian Premier League title to Al Ahly after they failed to win the league for the first time in six years!
