Cape Town City bolstered their squad with the acquisition of Nigerian midfielder Abdul Ajagun.

The 27-year-old was recently on the books of Belgian top-flight club, K.V. Kortrijk, and he’s regarded as one of the best attacking midfielders on the continent.

City announced the transfer on their social media pages on Friday morning.

However, the club didn’t disclose the details of Ajagun’s contract.

“Cape Town City is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Abdul Ajagun. The midfielder joins from Belgium Pro League side Kortrijk,” wrote the club.

Ajagun has spent almost his entire career in Europe with countries such as Greece and Belgium, and City would hope he hits the ground running once he gets the chance.

But having last kicked a ball in a competitive match before his release from Kortrijk in October 2020, coach Jan Olde Riekerink understands that it could be a challenge for Ajagun.

Ajagun is a former Nigeria U17 and U23, and he’s yet to play for the Super Eagles.
