Kaizer Chiefs are set to take on Tanzanian giants Yanga SC in a friendly match at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium this evening, in their first televised pre-season game.

Kaizer Chiefs are set to take on Tanzanian giants Yanga SC in a friendly match at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium this evening, in their first televised pre-season game.

Last month Chiefs announced the surprise appointment of former Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki, and then seven new signings to help him on the way.

The players that Chiefs announced are Thathayoane Ditlhokwe, Given Msimango, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Edson Castillo, Pule Mmodi, Ranga Chivaviro and Tebogo Potsane. Ntseki will now have perhaps the first chance to see some of these players and what they are really capable of, when they play against Yanga this evening.

Ditlhokwe was the first of the players to be announced, as soon as he signed a pre-contract with Chiefs during the January transfer window, leaving his former coach at SuperSport United Gavin Hunt, extremely hurt. The signing may have caught many by surprise as it was his centre back partner Luke Fleurs who had been embroiled in transfer speculation with Amakhosi, before he penned a new deal.

He could be set to have a new centre back partner in former TS Galaxy captain Msimango in the next season for Chiefs. Msimango had been a rock in the defence of the rockets for at least the past two seasons and was even linked to a move to Amakhosi this time last year. That move did not materialise however, and this time, all parties closed the deal. It is believed that Orlando Pirates were also hotly pursuing the player.

Chiefs have also strengthened in other areas such as midfielder with Castillo and Mdantsane, while they have added three attackers in Mmodi, Chivaviro and Potsane. Now let’s take a look at how they could line up against Yanga.

Itumeleng Khune, Edmilson Dove, Reeve Frosler, Ditlhokwe, Msimango, Castillo, Yusuf Maart, Mdantsane, Mmodi, Keagan Dolly and Chivaviro.
