SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt confirmed ex-Bafana Bafana striker Bradley Grobler was sent to hospital following an injury he sustained against Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday.

Grobler had to be substituted early during the Tshwane derby match between SuperSport and Sundowns which ended 1-1.

The former Bafana forward cancelled out Teboho Mokoena’s opener in the 34th minute before going off at half-time.

Hunt believed his striker was fouled and a penalty should have been awarded against Sundowns.“Yes, it (Grobler injury) affected us. I thought it was a penalty and it look like he was kicked from behind,” Hunt said after the match.

“He dislocated his shoulder so he’s gone to the hospital because it didn’t look good. It’s a huge blow because we don’t have depth and we’re struggling there so it was a huge blow for us.”

Hunt believed his side could have beaten Sundowns if they were patient.

I’m actually disappointed because I thought we didn’t have the touch to get us out. I mean look at the last move of the game. If we stayed onside then we were going to be through on goal,” said the United coach as per the Citizen.

“So that is inexperience and we need to learn. It’s frustrating but I have been doing this for 30 years and I understand it but we can’t compete with Sundowns,” he said.

Ex-Bafana striker injured in Sundowns game, Hunt concerned

Coach Hunt was not able to determine the severity of Grobler’s injury he sustained during the match against Sundowns. However, he suggested that the former Bafana player might be out of action for a considerable period.

Grobler has had his fair share of injuries over the years and being 36 years old, he might take longer to recover fully.

Depending on the extent of the injury, he may miss the remaining 10 games of the current season. After the game ended in a draw, Hunt praised his young players for their outstanding performance against Mamelodi Sundowns.
