How Cavin Johnson can become the a permanent coach at Chiefs

Cavin Johnson has impressed at Chiefs since taking over from Molefi Ntseki. He won three games in a row during December.

With Pitso Mosimane set to leave for Saudi Arabia, Kaizer Chiefs will need to look elsewhere for a new coach.

In the past six weeks, the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach was linked to a move to Chiefs.

In December, the 59-year-old revealed that the Soweto giants had not approached him but admitted he would take the job if the timing was right.

Chiefs have been searching for a new coach since sacking Molefi Ntseki last year in October.

Johnson, who was head of development, is currently serving as an interim coach at Chiefs.

Johnson aiming to build on Chiefs momentum

Under the ex-Platinum Stars coach, Amakhosi have won three of their last four games and are now sitiing sixth in the DStv Premiership.

Johnson has managed to get Amakhosi’s season on track and the side has steadily made progress since he took over the reigns.

If he can finish the season in the top 3, perhaps the Kaizer Chiefs management might consider him for a permanent role. What will guarantee him that position though is if he can guide the club to their first trophy in nine years.

Johnson still has the Nedbank Cup to compete for.

”I am happy with the number of points we have collected but I am not totally satisfied with the way we have performed overall,” Johnson was quoted on Chiefs website.

Amakhosi need Johnson until the end of the season

“And from a coach’s point of view, I think there is room for improvement in the way we execute in matches what we practice in training. From an effort point of view though, I think we are ahead of where I anticipated,” said the Chiefs coach.
