In recent weeks, Chiefs have been linked with the surprise (excuse the pun) signing of former Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City winger Bradley Surprise Ralani. Ralani has just been released by former club Sundowns following the expiration of his contract on 30 June. What is interesting with these links is that, it would not be the first time they have been made, as he was spoken about as possible prospect for Amakhosi, even before the current transfer window.

Just last week, this publication reported that Chiefs are currently talking to Ralani, either directly or through his representatives. It is also thought that the Glamour Boys are monitoring the situation with Richards Bay FC winger Sanele Barns before they make a move for the veteran winger.

It would certainly come as a shock as Ralani is currently 35-years-old and Chiefs have multitude of wingers who are yet to fully show their full potential. Additionally, Amakhosi have tried over the past year to significantly drop their age average. But what wouldn’t be a shock is if Amakhosi secure the signature of Ralani’s son Emile Witbooi, who is on the other side of the spectrum.

Witbooi is the hottest prospect in the country when it comes to the u15 age group. This was proven by the player scooping up two awards at the recent National u15 tournament, making the first ever u15 National Team too in the process. But that could be small waters for the skilful Younger, who had already established himself as a starter at national u16 level. Even when that team did not have the best of times in their tour to Europe last year, the player stood out attracting interest in Europe.

Ralani and Witbooi at Chiefs together?

European powerhouse Manchester United are one of the clubs that are thought to be monitoring Witbooi’s progress. Locally, Chiefs and Sundowns were thought to be battling it for his services, with Amakhosi thought to be leading the race. Now that could see a very rare situation where both father and son join a club in the same window. Furthermore, with Witbooi’s growth trajectory, he could emulate the likes of Siyabonga Mabena and make his first team debut before his father retires, if Ralani does indeed sign and eventually retire at Chiefs. The stuff of fairytales? Well, Amakhosi can definitely turn it into a reality.
