Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan has had his say on how the club can return to winning ways.

Amakhosi have not lifted a trophy in eight years which is their longest trophy drought in the history of the club.

In the eight years, coaches like Steve Komphela, Giovanni Solinas, Ernst Middendorp, Gavin Hunt, Stuart Baxter, Arthur Zwane and Molefi Ntseki have all failed to bring silverware to Naturena.

Khan believes that Kaizer Chiefs needs to bring in a coach that understands the club’s culture and embraces South African football.

Former Amakhosi winger Junior Khanye, who’s a big fan of Khan’s coaching methods, has said that Chiefs should bring in a local coach who knows the club’s identity and culture.

He also called for the Soweto giants to bring in Khan as head of development.

Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Khan said it was important for Kaizer Chiefs to bring a coach who believes in young players.

“As Chiefs search for a permanent coach after the departure of Molefi Ntseki, if they need to restore the glory days, they need someone who would encourage and embrace the South African culture of skilful players and also someone who is brave enough to give youngsters a platform and proper opportunities in the first team, because most Amakhosi stars in the past were from the academy,” said Khan.

“I always believe that as South Africans we have a certain quality of players and we need to ensure that we promote and encourage those types of players.

“Look at our history, some of our great players, the Ace Ntsoelengoes, Shakes [Kungwane], Scara Ngobese, the Teenage Dladlas, were never restricted on using their skill,” Khan said.
