Mamelodi Sundowns are set for European competition for Orlando Pirates striker target Tshegofatso Mabasa according to the latest reports.

In the January transfer window, Sundowns signed Thembinkosi Lorch from Pirates and could go back to Houghton!

Despite already cruising in the DStv Premiership, Sundowns were the most active side in the January window. The Brazilians already had a nine-point gap on second placed Cape Town City, with three games in hand at the time. That did not stop them from pursuing a squad boost ahead of the second half of the season. Of course for them, they also have to factor continental commitments with hopes of a Club FIFA World Cup too.

Now with that on the horizon, Sundowns went and signed the Likes of Zukho MdunyelwaMatias Esquivel. Then when everybody thought that they had strengthened enough, they add Thembinkosi Lorch and Tashreeq Matthews. The Rulani Mokwena-led side are showing no signs of slowing down on the transfer market ahead of next season. The South African News already understands that Masandawana have wrapped up a deal to sign Jayden Adams from Stellenbosch FC.

Sundowns renewed their interest in Pirates star

Last week, this publication reported that Sundowns had renewed their interest in Mabasa, with Pirates willing to sell. Now according to FARPost, they will face strong competition from FCSB!

“At this point, his decision has to be considerate of his future as a player considering his age. Sundowns have the financial muscles to get him. But a chance at playing in the Champions League is not easy to resist. FCSB want him. They are on top in the Super Liga and are likely to be playing in the UEFA Champions League. At the moment, I’m also talking to other clubs in Europe. But the idea is to help him keep his calm until the season is over. The good thing is that Pirates are ready to sell and also open up space for upcoming youngsters. So we wait until the season ends.” Said Mabasa’s agent Gary Cassisa to the same publication.

Mabasa to go to FCSB instead?

Should Mabasa join FCSB from Pirates, he will team up with former Kaizer Chiefs star Siyabonga Ngezana. Is the pursuit over for Sundowns now?
