Dismal Dolly: Overpaid and underperforming at Kaizer Chiefs

These stats don’t make for great reading.

It’s not Keagan Dolly’s fault he was handed a massive contract with Kaizer Chiefs. However, he’s certainly in control of his performances.

TOP EARNER, BUT IS IT MERITED?

Keagan Dolly bags a reported R1.4 million a month, making him the club’s top earner by some distance. His monthly pay packet is almost exactly triple that of Itumeleng Khune, who is expected to leave the club at the end of the 2023/24 campaign. This lopsided wage bill needs some restructuring, it seems. In just over two-and-a-half years with the club, Keagan Dolly has made only 66 appearances for Amakhosi. Injuries are a reality for all footballers, but that figure is still nowhere near good enough. This season, he has made just six DStv Premiership appearances with no goals and a solitary assist to show for his efforts.

Is it time for Kaizer Chiefs to ditch Keagan Dolly?

At 31, Dolly isn’t getting any younger and they could do worse than scouring the PSL for emerging talents who won’t command such massive salaries. Sundowns have reportedly stolen a march on Amakhosi in their pursuit of Shandre Campbell, a youngster who certainly fits the bill.
