Disappointed Xoki staying positive despite Pirates loss

Despite their loss to Stellenbosch on Saturday night, Orlando Pirates defender Tapelo Xoki is urging his teammates to stay positive.

After their poor start to the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season, disappointed Orlando Pirates defender Tapelo Xoki has urged his teammates to stay positive despite the loss.

Pirates succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Stellenbosch and the defender, Xoki wants to erase the loss and focus on their upcoming encounter.

Xoki was part of the Pirates starting line-up at Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday night but coach Jose Riveiro’s men were stunned by Stellies.

XOKI STAYING POSITIVE DESPITE PIRATES LOSS

In his post-match reaction, Xoki has now urged his Pirates teammates to look for a win as they didn’t want to start the season with a loss.

A solitary strike by Antonio van Wyk separated the two DStv Premiership sides as the 21-year-old winger beat goalkeeper Sipho Chaine.

The former AmaZulu defender, Xoki reckons they should leave the loss behind and focus on their next game against Royal AM at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.

“It’s not the way we wanted to start, utterly disappointed with the result. But we can take the positives from the game, looking forward to the next game on Tuesday,” he told Pirates media team.

“There is no time to feel sorry for ourselves. We just have to pick ourselves up and make sure we are ready for the game.”

PIRATES DEFENDER XOKI EYEING WIN OVER ROYAL AM

The seasoned Pirates stopper is now setting his sights on bagging a win against Thwihli Thwahla who drew against neighbours AmaZulu last weekend.

“We have to stay positive, there is no other way. The games are coming thick and fast, so we need three points as soon as possible,” he added.

“We just have to look forward to the game and make sure we get ready. Now it’s time to recover and make sure we are as fresh as possible for Tuesday.”

Their second match of the season will be staged at Orlando Stadium at 19:30 as Xoki believes the venue is Pirates fortress.
