Club owner confirms player heading to Mamelodi Sundowns 

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to officially add Ethiopian international Abubeker Nasir Ahmed from Ethiopian Coffee.

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to officially add Ethiopian international Abubeker Nasir Ahmed from Ethiopian Coffee.

Nasir signed for Sundowns during the January transfer window, after he was initially called for an assessment period in Tshwane.

Nasir impressed Sundowns on trial

It appeared that the player impressed the club’s technical staff who gave him a contract, before he returned to the Ethiopian topflight, where he finished the season at Coffee. Nasir finished the season with 11 goals, and will be hoping to take similar scoring form to South Africa. He is now due to return to Sundowns where he is expected to be given an opportunity to showcase his talents in the DStv Premiership for the defending champion.

Coffee Chairman Fekade Mamo, confirmed the news as well as how difficult he for saw it being to replace Nasir as he leaves for Sundowns. 

Coffee pondering a replacement

“It will be very difficult to replace him (Nasir), but we must live with that reality. For now, we have to try and find other options from other clubs or even in the lower divisions, but it will be very difficult to replace Abubeker,” said the chairman as per Kick Off.

Mamo then went on to describe the details of Nasir’s agreement with Sundowns.

Confirm return to Chloorkop

“He is going back to Sundowns in June as per the agreement that we had with them at the beginning of the year. We have already agreed on the deal, and it has been done according to the agreement with no further communication had come from Sundowns. The transactions that had to go through have been done and the player belongs to Mamelodi Sundowns. This is the biggest transfer in the history of our club,”.

The soon to be 22 year-old Nasir scored 29 goals on his way to being crowned the league’s top scorer, Best Young Player, and Most Valuable Player. He is also expected to play an integral part as Ethiopia start their AFCON 2023 Qualifying campaign next month.
