Chiefs set to miss out on Mngqithi, talks ongoing with Sundowns

Mngqithi was demoted by Sundowns in October 2022 but he remained committed to the club and worked with Rhulani Mokwena.

Kaizer Chiefs look set to miss out on reported target Manqoba Mngqithi whose agent, Mike Makaab, revealed ongoing talks with Mamelodi Sundowns.

In an interview with Gagasi FM this week, Makaab confirmed that they have already opened talks with Sundowns over Mngqithi’s new deal.

The coach’s current contract expires on 30 June, and reports had suggested Chiefs could pounce on him as he would be free.

However, Mngqithi, at least according to Makaab, has no intention to leave Sundowns any time soon as he’s still happy at Chloorkop.

Furthermore, Makaab hopes to finalise talks with Sundowns in the next two weeks or more so that the Mngqithi issue is put to rest.l

MNGQITHI IN TALKS WITH SUNDOWNS, CHIEFS TO MISS OUT

“We, at the moment, are speaking to Mamelodi Sundowns,” said Makaab.

“Manqoba is happy at the club. We’ve said this all along. Now, it just depends on us coming to an agreement with the Football Club to extend his contract.

“It’s still early days as far as the negotiations are concerned but I’m hoping that within the next seven to 14 days, within the next couple of weeks, we’ll have more clarity on Manqoba’s future.”

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO AMAKHOSI’S HUNT FOR NEW COACH?

Kaizer Chiefs’ hunt for the new coach is still on, but there is a likelihood that they will make a final decision at the end of the current campaign.

And Mngqithi as well as Pitso Mosimane were touted to take over but Chiefs never showed interest when the rumours were making rounds.

Now, Chiefs will have to look elsewhere or stick with Cavin Johnson depending on how well he does in the coming months.
