Mamelodi Sundowns fullback Lyle Lakay has lifted the lid on the club’s 24-hour rule as the defending champions endure a sluggish start to the season.

Lakay says that it is something that is ingrained into the fabric of Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 24-hour rule pertains to players celebrating a victory or even mourning a defeat or dropped points.

Basically, the rule of thumb at Sundowns is that in the wake of a victory players can celebrate for 24 hours, and in defeat, they can sulk for the same period of time.

Sundowns have a system of processing and moving on according to Lekay.

“We are professionals, we were disappointed with our previous result against Sekhukhune United and we have this 24-hour (rule) whereby if you win you get to celebrate for 24 hours, if you lose you can be disappointed for 24 hours but after that it’s back to work and focusing on the next game,” Lakay said.

Next up for Sundowns will be Stellenbosch FC who could leapfrog ahead of the Brazilians with victory in Tshwane.

However, Lekay says this team perform best when they are under pressure, and has backed his comrades to get it done.

Lekay also said: “I would say we are over the previous game and us being professionals we have to focus on the next assignment which is Stellenbosch, and I think the guys are ready.

The Sundowns defender would continue: “People would say obviously we drew our game before this, we had a win and a loss before. We are a team that performs best under pressure, not that we always have to put ourselves in this situation but we thrive under pressure, we are motivated and we are going out there for the three points.”
