Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Lyle Lakay has expressed his disappointment at Masandawana’s slow start to the season having unexpectedly dropped points in two matches.

The Tshwane giants shockingly suffered a home defeat to TS Galaxy in their second game of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season and most recently drew with Sekhukhune United.

Lakay hasn’t been involved that much on the pitch this season with Aubrey Modiba being selected ahead of him.

LAKAY ON SUNDOWNS’ DISAPPOINTING START

“It’s two points dropped and at Sundowns a draw is like a defeat,” Lakay said as per KickOff.

“Whenever we draw after the game you can see the guys’ emotion and all those things you can see it feels like a loss.

“If you look at the game against Sekhukhune United and the chances we had especially in the first half, we should have been three or four up.

“But we just need to forget about it and focus on the next match.

“We’re disappointed with the previous results and we have this 24 hours policy where if we win, we’ll celebrate for 24 hours, and if you lose we can be disappointed for 24 hours but after that, it’s back to work and focusing on the next match.”

The Brazilians are back on action as they host Stellenbosch FC at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday, 24 August.

Kick-off is at 17:00.

The last time the two sides met, Mamelodi Sundowns were trashed 3-0 by Stellies and Lakay is aware of how much of a threat the young squad of the Western Cape club pose.

Steve Barker’s side has won one and drawn three of the four league games so far this season.

“We know Stellies as a young team full of energy, lots of pace and even though they lost [Ashley] Du Preez to Kaizer Chiefs, even without him they are still a threat with the youngsters in the team,” Lakay told the Mamelodi Sundowns website.

“If you look at their recent form in the league they’ve been on a high even though they’ve won two games and drawn two games if I’m not mistaken.

“People will obviously look at our previous two seasons against Stellies and if we have been watching those games they’ve been a tough opponent for us. Last season we drew the away leg, then they won the second leg here.

“We are looking forward to it and obviously we do our analysis like we do with any other team, trying to figure out their strong point and obviously try to rectify what we did wrong in our previous game so that we can correct it in this game. Obviously we want to go out there and win the game, like we do with every other game.”
