Dan Malesela is reportedly in talks to join the Orlando Pirates backroom staff, with some speculating he could take the top job.

The former Chippa United and TS Galaxy coach finds himself without a club and is keen to get back to work.

Indications are that Malesela might be appointed to a role within the technical team under current caretakers Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids.

Ncikazi left his job as the head coach of Golden Arrows to take up the position at Orlando Pirates and there is good reason to believe he will be the man handed the reins, especially if the Sea Robbers continue their current form.

Davids experience as a head coach is far more limited, but he did guide Maritzburg United to a top four finish.

Is Dan the man for Orlando Pirates?

Malesela is a former Orlando Pirates stalwart but has never coached a top side in the PSL with his experience limited to three stints with Chippa United and a spell at the Rockets. He won the Nedbank Cup with TS Galaxy though, masterminding the 1-0 final win over Kaizer Chiefs that further endeared him to the Orlando Pirates faithful.

Malesela’s representatives are believed to have pitched the experienced coach to Orlando Pirates according to a report from Soccer Laduma.

“Dan Malesela is keen on a return to coaching after being out for some time. He is ready for any challenge that might come his way and he would love to go to a club that is stable and which is serious about winning in his new job. That’s why the coach was recently offered to Pirates,” said the source.

“The coach feels that he is ready to coach at a big club like Pirates. You must remember that this is the same coach who won the Nedbank Cup with TS Galaxy (in 2019) while the club was still in the NFD (now GladAfrica Championship) after they beat Kaizer Chiefs in the final. It’s just that the club (Pirates) doesn’t seem to be keen at the moment to add to their technical team and the coach will have to look elsewhere,” the source added.
