Orlando Pirates have allowed Bongani Sam to join their Soweto rivals in an attempt to afford him first team football next season.

Sam has joined Swallows FC on another season-long loan deal from the Buccaneers who clearly don’t have a space for him.

The left-back first arrived at Pirates in 2019 from Bloemfontein Celtic but he struggled to cement a regular place in the team.

Sam was often used sparingly by Pirates until they decided to loan him out to ease frustrations on him.

Now, Sam would hope to impress under Steve Komphela whom he worked with at Celtic prior to making the move to Pirates.

According to SABC Sport, Chippa United were also keen to sign Sam but in the end, it was Swallows who won the race to sign him.

ORLANDO PIRATES LEFT-BACK BONGANI SAM JOINS SWALLOWS

“As previously reported by SABC Sport, defender Bongani Sam is leaving Orlando Pirates on yet another loan spell.

“Chippa United were understood to be favourites to sign the player ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, but it’s their Soweto rivals Swallows FC who’ve managed to conclude a deal to keep Sam in Gauteng.”
