If there was one PSL team who had plenty to ponder over the international break, it was Cape Town City. They desperately need to get their season back on track and Wednesday’s trip to the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium would be an ideal place to start.

After all the excitement heading into the season, City now find themselves without Benni McCarthy and without an away league win all season.

The team from the Mother City began the post-McCarthy era with a 5-3 home win over Polokwane City, but they succumbed to a 2-1 away defeat to Black Leopards immediately afterwards.

New coach Jan Olde Riekerink is an experienced customer, having been in charge at Galatasaray and Heerenveen and worked at FC Porto and Ajax.

City chairman John Comitis was full of praise for the impact his new head coach has had on the club so far.

“I engage with the players every fortnight, at least at some level, but that is something I feel I don’t need to do anymore. It seems like those parts of the game are attended to by the coach,” he was quoted as saying by EWN.

“I don’t get involved in the technical details with the players but certainly to keep them focused and to keep them in harmony, those are things I kind of do in the background but it seems those have been taken care of as well.”

Comitis and Riekerink will both be fully aware that talk is cheap in football. Celtic have picked up 10 points from five home games so far this season and will not be an easy side to beat on the road.

Kick-off time and prediction

Kick-off time: Wednesday 27 November at 19:30

Prediction: Cape Town City can’t seem to catch a lucky break on the road. It is worth noting that they have the joint best attacking record in the league, but with the worst defensive record, they have not done themselves any favours.

Another high-scoring fixture is expected at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium with a 2-2 draw the likely outcome.
