Bongani Zungu was given a straight red for dangerous tackle on Bernard Parker.

Former Kaizer Chiefs forward Bernard Parker has provided an update on the progress of his recovery following his horrific injury.

The 37-year-old, who is currently signed with TS Galaxy, sustained a career-threatening injury against Mamelodi Sundowns in October 2023.

He was taken off the match early on after a dangerous tackle by Bongani Zungu.

Following the tackle, the midfielder received harsh criticism from fans and pundits.

There were even doubts that Parker may return to football following his injury.

Speaking to FARPost, the former Bafana Bafana star said recovery was going well.

Bernard Parker’s rehabilitation going well

“So far, so good, the rehabilitation process has been smooth. According to my knowledge, I’m one month ahead in terms of progress,” Parker was quoted FARPost.

“I’m enjoying myself, every day I’m amongst my teammates, sharing my knowledge and experience as much as I can. At this stage, I’m doing the warm-ups and the passing with other guys; then, I continue with my strengthening and loading exercises.”

Parker is unlikely to return to action this season but could be back on the field next campaign if Galaxy decide to keep him.

“I think because of this period I’m going through, what helps me the most is my mental strength, and I hope that the young boys and all the other players are drawing inspiration from it,” he added.
