Steve Barker’s Stellenbosch travel to Durban to take on his old side, AmaZulu, on Wednesday in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Both teams endured troubled starts to the season, but they each come into this encounter off the back of two league wins in a row.

AmaZulu beat Cape Town City 2-1 and Baroka 1-0 with a 5-0 Telkom Knockout loss to Mamelodi Sundowns sandwiched in between.

Stellies, meanwhile, won 2-0 away to Polokwane City and 1-0 at home to Orlando Pirates, although the latter result came back off a 1-0 away defeat to the Buccaneers in the Telkom Knockout.

“I just knew that a victory against a team like Pirates for a club like us, Stellenbosch — who would have thought that three, four years ago, this club would be playing at Cape Town Stadium and beating a team like Pirates?” Steve Barker told the media after the win over the Buccaneers.

“For us to be beating a team like Pirates, it is massive for everyone involved at the club from top, down, the community and the kids.”

A trip to Durban to take on Jozef Vukušič’s fast-improving Usuthu awaits.

Kick-off time and prediction

Kick-off time: Wednesday 6 November at 19:30

Prediction: Both of these teams are unpredictable and they have both struggled at times to find an ideal balance between defence and attack.

AmaZulu defended valiantly against Orlando Pirates and even for large spells against Kaizer Chiefs, but what they showed against Amakhosi and Mamelodi Sundowns was a propensity to allow the floodgates to open after conceding once.

Stellies have struggled to see out games at times, but appear to be striking the right balance at last. However, Steve Barker might still tinker with his starting XI for a tough away test.

A 2-2 draw is the predicted result in Durban.
