Cape Town City begin the post-Benni McCarthy era at home to Polokwane City, the same team which started their nine-match winless streak back in August with a 2-0 away MTN8 win at Newlands.

McCarthy has had his contract terminated by City, as announced shortly after the clock struck midnight on Monday morning.

“Cape Town City Football Club has terminated the employment of coach Benni McCarthy, with immediate effect following a run of performance that saw the club win 2 in the last 18 games,” City wrote on Twitter.

“The club thanks Benni for his service over the last three seasons and wishes him well in his next endeavour. He now becomes an integral part of the club’s history and are proud of the successes we shared together.

“The club has appointed assistant coach Vasili Manousakis as caretaker coach, as the club prepares to announce the next chapter and new Head Coach.

“The future represents very exciting times for Cape Town City on and off the field, as we remain dedicated to our big plans and aspirations.”

Meanwhile, Polokwane City coach Zlatko Krmpotić himself is under presssure and will desperately be looking to end a run of four straight defeats in all competitions.

Prediction: Cape Town City’s luck has been out recently. They have at times played fantastic football, but not picked up results to show for it.
