Chiefs continued to beef up their midfield with the addition of Castillo, and that signing could have a direct impact on midfielders already at the club.

Already Chiefs have opened up space in the midfield department by releasing the likes of Phathutshedzo Nange as well as Cole Alexander. The two veterans joined the club only two seasons ago, under former coach Stuart Baxter, and became regulars for the British mentor in his second spell as Amakhosi coach. Then under Zwane, Chiefs announced three more midfield signings, with the additions of Siyethemba Sithebe, George Matlou and Yusuf Maart. Although Sithebe started much of the early stages of his debut campaign for Amakhosi, it was Maart who was a consistent starter for the club. Sithebe then found himself reduced to the peripheries with Matlou, until his fortunes changed with the departure of Njabulo Blom midseason.

Now with Castillo joining and expected to finally fill that Blom void, questions have been asked over the future of Sithebe, who looked to rescue himself from the dead in that position. And now according to Soccer-Laduma

Sithebe set to stay at Chiefs

“What they have said is that after the departure of Phathutshedzo Nange and Cole Alexander, they don’t have depth in the defensive midfield areas as they depend on youngster Samkelo Zwane and Sithebe himself, And since they have not yet signed any experienced defensive midfielder, they have decided it’s good that Sithebe sees his contract through. That’s why they want to keep him until at the end of his contract next year,” said the source to the same publication. (https://yourolddog.com/)

Sithebe’s hard work in the middle of the park saw him become a key player for Chiefs in the second half of the next season, and he will be hoping he can get the opportunity to pick up from where he left off.
