Al Ahly skipper and goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy has tested positive for Covid-19.

The 32-year-old has been a standout performer for the Egyptian giants this season having kept 13 clean sheets in 20 matches across all competitions, according to the KingFut website.

He played an integral role in Al Ahly winning the bronze medal at the FIFA Club World Cup when he saved two penalties against Copa Libertadores champions Palmeiras.

Al Ahly will now have to do without him after he returned a positive Covid-19 test which has seen him ruled out of Sunday’s Egyptian Premier League clash against bitter rivals Zamalek.

Kick-off is at 21:30 SA time.

In addition to El-Shennawy’s absence, coach Pitso Mosimane is also missing a number of other first-choice players, most notably Ali Maaloul, Mohamed Hany and Junior Ajayi.

Al Ahly enter the match in fourth place in the league table with 27 points, six behind leaders Zamalek, but with three games in hand.
