Orlando Pirates ultimately held their nerve in a penalty shootout as they beat Dondol Stars to book a spot in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals this past weekend.

A tensely-contested quarter-final clash had ended deadlocked at 1-1, with no separating the two sides after 120 minutes of play, but Pirates would not be denied in the end.

However, after the match, it was notable to hear that an angry Dondol Stars co-coach Khuliso Rashamuse suggested that an unidentified Orlando Pirates official was guilty of “disgusting” behaviour.

Apparently the member of the Buccaneers’ management was seen behind Dondol’s goalposts, and he was subsequently accused of tampering with goalkeeper Sphamandla Gumede’s water bottle.

Members of the Dondol Stars management reacted angrily in the moment and a bit of an altercation occurred in the tunnel, forcing officials to step in.

“‘Spha’ [Gumede] had water there at the goalposts and it was just pure water. So the cadre there from Orlando Pirates, I don’t know his name, went there and took that water bottle,” Rashamuse said afterwards.

“We had a situation where the game is on and Spha is focusing on the guy and that was very disgusting. You don’t do that because this is a game of tempers and emotions. You end up losing tempers and respect. Spha is asthmatic and if he doesn’t have the pump he needs water, that’s why I was very angry with what happened there.”
