The Premier League continues this weekend with the big guns already locked in another title battle at the top.

Liverpool have made the perfect start as they attempt to go one better than last season’s sparkling second place finish behind Manchester City.

Five wins from five have left Jurgen Klopp men five points clear of their championship rivals in the embryonic EPL table.

But the Reds face a stern test of their credentials on Sunday when they take their 100 per cent record to Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.

The Blues’ stuttering early season form took a turn for the better last weekend as they thrashed Wolves 5-2 at Molineux to rise to sixth in the standings.

Defending champions City face a much more straightforward task on paper, as they host Watford at the Etihad Stadium.

The Premier League kings were hitting their straps thanks to handsome wins over Bournemouth and Brighton in recent weeks.

But they could have done without a shock 3-2 loss away to promoted Norwich last Saturday night.

The Hornets also pulled off something of a surprise after becoming the first EPL side to change their coach this season.

They came back from two goals down to earn just their second point of the campaign at home to Arsenal.

A bit of early pressure on Pep Guardiola’s all stars then, as the midweek rigours of Champions League football now kick in to boot.

The Gunners have the chance to relieve their frustrations of last weekend with a home game against Aston Villa.

Dean Smith’s side have just one victory to show for their top flight return so far and were held to a goalless draw at Villa Park on Monday night by West Ham.

The Hammers now tackle Manchester United at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were indebted to an early penalty at Old Trafford last Saturday, helping them sneak a 1-0 win over Leicester that shifted them up to fourth despite a tetchy start to the season.

Brendan Rodgers’ side remain fifth going into the weekend as they face another stern test at home to resurgent Tottenham.

Spurs go to the King Power Stadium for the Saturday lunchtime kick off having finally broken their shackles to thump Crystal Palace 4-0 in north London last weekend.

The Eagles must wait until Sunday to face Wolves – and find out which of their defences will prove less leaky than the other.

There’s a south coast derby to start the weekend action when Southampton meet Bournemouth under the Friday night lights at St Mary’s Stadium.

Everton put their inconsistent start to the new campaign up against promoted Sheffield United on Saturday, with the Blades without a win in three.

It’s already shaping up to be another long season for struggling Newcastle and Brighton, with the Seagulls making the trek north to play the Toon Army at St James’ Park on Saturday.

Burnley are also without success since the opening day, going into their Saturday clash with giant-killing Norwich at Turf Moor.
