Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus has revealed what made him leave English Premiership champions Manchester City.

The 26-year-old claimed that former coach Pep Guardiola made him cry.

Jesus, who left the Citizens in the beginning of the 2022/23 season, revealed that Guardiola’s decision to play a defender ahead of him in an important UEFA Champions League game was the reason he left the club for £45million.

Speaking on Brazilian legend Denilson’s podcast, the Arsenal striker said having Oleksandr Zinchenko as a striker was a joke.

“There was a Champions League game, PSG, at home, in which he put Zinchenko as a false 9. Crazy thing.

“The day before, he didn’t even use him [Zinchenko] in training, he had put me in as a striker… Zinchenko even joked with me ‘that day I felt bad for you’.

Jesus says Pep preferred to play Zinchenko as a striker while he was on the bench

“Two hours before the game, there’s a team talk, the team eats, rests for 30 minutes and goes to the game. He told us the team… I didn’t even eat. I went straight to the room, crying,” Jesus said in a podcast.

During his time with Man City, the striker scored a total of 95 goals in 236 appearances. He was often in and out of the Pep’s match day squad and often, Jesus was played out of position but still scored crucial goals for the Manchester club.

After the PSG game, Jesus said he caled his mother and told her he wanted to leave City.

“I called my mother to talk: ‘I want to leave. I’m going home, because he put him [Zinchenko] on, and he didn’t put me on. He put a left-back there.’ I went crazy.

“I didn’t warm up. I felt bad. Five minutes after [Kylian] Mbappe scored the goal for 1-0, he [Guardiola] called me. I gave an assist and scored; we turned it around 2-1. In the next [Champions League] game, I thought I was going to play, and I didn’t play,” Jesus said.

Since moving to Arsenal, Jesus has played regularly and appears to be enjoying his football again.
