SA referee to blow Al Ahly’s CAF Champions League semi-final against Esperance

CAF has announced that SA referee Victor Gomes will officiate Al Ahly’s CAF Champions League first leg semi-final against Esperance Tunis.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that South African referee Victor Gomes will officiate Al Ahly’s CAF Champions League first leg semi-final against Esperance Tunis.

Al Ahly are set to face Esperance Tunis in the first leg of the CAF Champions League semi-final on Saturday, June 19 at the Stade Olympique de Radès in Tunis.

Kick-off is at 18:00 SA time.

Al Ahly beat Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 on aggregate in their CAF Champions League quarter-final to progress to the last four.

Meanwhile, Esperance Tunis beat Algeria’s CR Belouizdad in a tight quart-final which was decided by a penalty shootout.

Gomes, 38, has been a PSL referee since 2008 and was voted PSL Referee of the Season in 2012/13 and 2017/18.

He has been a FIFA referee since 2011 and handled last year’s CAF Super Cup between Zamalek and Esperance which saw the White Knights triumph.
