Kaizer Chiefs are NOT a cheating team – Gavin Hunt

Kaizer Chiefs will not cheat their way to the knockout of the CAF Champions League, according to head coach Gavin Hunt.

Kaizer Chiefs will not cheat their way to the knockout of the CAF Champions League.

These were the words of Gavin Hunt following Amakhosi’s 0-0 draw at home against Horoya AC on Tuesday where goalkeeper Moussa Camara resorted to time-wasting tactics to earn his side a crucial away point.

While Hunt expects more teams to do the same in CAF inter-club competitions, he said Chiefs, at least under his watch, will try to be as honest as possible in the competition.

“You’ll get these things more so at home than away but that is part of the game on the African continent. But you’ve got to get better. These things make you stronger,” Hunt told reporters.

What Hunt is aware of is that if Chiefs decide to play dirty to win matches, that will come back to haunt them in the long run.

And for that reason, he has urged his Amakhosi players to remain true and honest to themselves, adding that they will benefit from competing fairly.

“What I often say is, ‘what goes around comes around’. If you cheat today, it will come back to you tomorrow,” he continued.

“I have emphasised to my players that they should be honest, stay honest, stay true to the course and play the game properly. In the long run, you will benefit,” added Hunt.

Chiefs have a mountain to climb in the next few days as they will take on Wydad Casablanca and Petro de Luanda in back-to-back CAF Champions League match on February 28 and March 6 respectively.

As things stand, Chiefs are placed third on the Group C log with a single point from the one game they have played.

Horoya top the standings with four points followed by Wydad who collected maximum points in their opening match against Petro de Luanda.
