Bafana Bafana footballer Teboho Mokoena has turned heads after expressing support for controversial opposition leader Julius Malema. The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder caused a stir during Bafana’s welcome home from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Following South Africa’s historic achievement at the tournament, a large crowd greeted the team at OR Tambo International Airport. The EFF (Economic Freedom Fighters) transformed the reception into a rally, with their signature red clothing dominating the scene.

Mokoena’s Surprising Declaration

While being welcomed on stage during a live broadcast, Mokoena shouted, “Ta Julius!” followed by an enthusiastic declaration: “He is my favourite president in the country!”

The footballer also thanked the EFF supporters for their presence. “This is the proudest moment of my life, for my family. I will keep on doing my best to make the family proud,” he added.

Mokoena’s AFCON Success

Mokoena’s outspokenness comes on the back of his superb performance in the AFCON. He earned a ‘Man of the Match’ title during the round of 16 against Morocco and scored a memorable free-kick.

Mokoena was also on target with a penalty during the semi-final clash against Nigeria. Ultimately, his contributions helped South Africa win its first bronze medal at the competition in 24 years.
