Hugo Broos doesn’t have a future with Bafana – Lovers

Hugo Broos, head coach of Bafana Bafana, has come under fire for the team’s patchy performance, with South Africans once again left deflated by the team’s efforts.

Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo, Ivory Coast hosted Bafana’s disheartening 2-0 loss to Mali on Tuesday night to begin their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

Now calls mount for Broos’ head.

Lovers Mohlala, a former defender for Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana, isn’t sold on the group led by Broos.

Bafana’s defeat has left them bottom of Group E’s goal differential standings, one goal below Tunisia, who also lost their opening game against Namibia.

“I still think that this coach doesn’t have a future with the South African national team,” Mohlala told Soccer Laduma. 

“You look at all the matches he has overseen, the results haven’t been convincing.

“In the game against Morocco (which Bafana won 2-1 in the qualifiers at FNB Stadium last June), Morocco had nothing to lose. 

“For me, the coach is a problem because when he planned to engage PSL clubs, he started with engaging the media. 

“After that, he wanted to talk to PSL coaches and for me that is a problem. 

“Complaining to the media doesn’t help with anything.”

Local coaches overlooked

For the results he has achieved, SAFA would be better off appointing a local coach instead of Bross according to the former Downs star.

“I read somewhere and Hugo Broos was quoted saying that Rulani (Mokwena) is (Jose) Mourinho, and I am saying that is his opinion. 

“What I am saying to SAFA, let’s go suffer with our own coach. 

“The same Hugo Broos, who is coaching Bafana, isn’t coaching any team in his own country. 

“Before we went to Afcon, we drew against Lesotho (in the final friendly), and for me that doesn’t make sense. 

“Let’s say Hugo Broos is a Ferrari and call the coach of Lesotho a Taz and you get people driving those two cars on the freeway at the same time, what’s going to happen? It is obvious that the Ferrari would do much better. 

“Hugo Broos is a Ferrari that doesn’t take us anywhere,” concluded Mohlala.”
