EXCLUSIVE: Maximum number of vaccinated fans for Bafana vs Ethiopia game set!

SAFA promised free entrance for vaccinated football fans for the Bafana Bafana vs Ethiopia match at FNB Stadium next Tuesday, and it has been approved.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) promised free entrance for vaccinated football fans for the Bafana Bafana vs Ethiopia match at FNB Stadium next Tuesday.

And this has officially been approved and there are conditions!

The South African has exclusively gathered that the one condition is that ONLY 2000 football fans will be able to gain access to the venue for the match.

This is in line with the country’s adjusted Level 1 lockdown restrictions as announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa last week.

According to a source privy to the situation around the Bafana Bafana vs Ethiopia match, all the stakeholders met on Tuesday where the return of fans to the stadium for this particular encounter was rubber-stamped.

“We will see fans back at stadium as promised,” the source told The South African.

“Tuesday’s meeting was fruitful but the only disappointment for the fans is that a maximum of 2000 vaccinated fans will be allowed at the venue for the Bafana Bafana vs Ethiopia game,” concluded the source.

Bafana Bafana fans had perhaps expected the number to be higher given the capacity of the FNB Stadium (94 000).

However, the stakeholders involved, working hand-in-hand with the government, would have broken the law by going beyond the 2000 spectators.

The encounter at the Calabash will be Bafana Bafana’s fourth of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Hugo Broos’ men first visit Ethiopia this coming Saturday, 9 October 2021, in what will be their third match of the group stages.

Kick-off is at 15:00.

Bafana Bafana top the Group G standings with four points from their opening two games of the qualifiers.
