Bafana Bafana legend Teko Modise is not so sure if Hugo Broos has a system that would allow for players to be selected on merit and perform.

Speaking to the media in Durban, Modise questioned the exclusion of certain players in the Bafana Bafana squad that will face Namibia and the DR Congo.

Modise feels Broos is selecting the majority of players from certain teams he watches more than others, making mention of Deano van Rooyen (Stellies) and Ashley du Preez (Kaizer Chiefs).

Mamelodi Sundowns dominate the current Bafana Bafana squad but Modise isn’t convinced if that’s the way to go.

He is of the opinion that those Sundowns players are performing at club level simply because of the system in place at Chloorkop.

And while he believes it is not a bad thing to have Sundowns dominating the Bafana Bafana squads, and Broos possibly wanting to play the same brand of football as the league champions, the Belgian mentor needs to come up with his own thing.

“It’s not a bad thing [that Sundowns have more players in Bafana Bafana]. There are a lot of things that Bafana can do differently from Sundowns but Hugo Broos has to have his own identity because if he does not he will be influenced by the Mamelodi Sundowns style of play,” said Modise.
“But we (Bafana Bafana) need to have some kind of system because for the national team, you need to select players who will fit into your system, and the question is, ‘does Hugo Broos have a system?’, I am not sure,” concluded Modise.
