Bafana Bafana will take confidence from come-from-behind win

Bafana Bafana’s comeback victory over Botswana will bolster their confidence according to stand-in coach Morena Ramoreboli.

On Saturday afternoon, the South Africans defeated Botswana after coming from behind to earn their first victory in Group A of the Cosafa Cup.

Following dropped points on Wednesday, the interim coach was delighted with his charges’ overall performance in the victory.

“I think it was bound to happen. We kept on trying, trying and for a change today we decided not to make any change when we came back from halftime because we felt it was almost there,” Ramoreboli told SuperSport after the game.

“And we’re trying to build momentum and sometimes when you win matches like this it is the only way to build confidence and believe that we can go through.

“So, I think honestly speaking credit to the guys. The boys did very well. Defensively, offensively they fought and I think the biggest mistake that we make we allowed them sometimes to receive balls behind our defence and that was very dangerous for us.

“But I think honestly speaking the overall performance is much better than the overall performance we showed in the first match but look I’m happy and I think we’re building on a performance after every game.

“So, I’m very happy with the victory. We needed this victory so that at least we go into the next match with confidence.”

How it happened 

Thatayaone Kgamanyane, a former forward for Chippa United, pounced onto a pass over the top and fired into the far corner to give Botswana the lead against the flow of play at the time.

Two minutes later, though, Victor Letsoalo was pulled down by Tebogo Kopelang, who was also sent off for his challenge. As a result, Bafana were given a chance to get back into the match when they were handed a penalty. Rayners stepped up and scored from the spot to level.

Shaune Mogaila then scored the winning goal for Bafana in the 67th minute after a loose ball fell into his path. He did not hesitate to send the ball past Malapela from the edge of the box to give his team the lead and the win.
