Bafana’s unbeaten run of 12 games came to an end against Rwanda but the reality is that the team drew with the likes of Namibia and Eswatini.

Following their 2-0 defeat to Rwanda in a World Cup qualifier match last month, Bafana Bafana have dropped to 66th in the FIFA rankings.

Hugo Broos’s side started the WC qualifiers with a 2-1 win over Benin at the FNB Stadium but three days later, they were shocked by the Wasps of Rwanda, who are ranked 140th in the world.

Coming into the match, Bafana were unbeaten in 12 matches. The undefeated streak came to an end at a wet Huye Stadium in a game that South Africa needed to win to establish themselves as a force going into the third round of games next year.

Under Broos, Bafana showed promise but the reality is that no real progress has been made since Shakes Mashaba was fired back in 2016.

The team bragged about their unbeaten run but the reality was that the rankings showed that Broos and his team were not going anywhere.

In the 16 months Bafana were unbeaten, they never actually made a big jump in the rankings.

Broos found Bafana ranked 72nd and many hoped that by time time, the team should be in the top 50 or close but in his two years in charge, the national team has failed to convince the public. Draws against Namibia and Eswatini prove that Broos is not improving the team.
