Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has dismissed rumours linking him with a role at Club Brugge.

Hugo Broos is happy with Bafana

Broos’ name was mentioned in February as a contender to take up the Technical Director role at Belgian giants Brugge. Broos, however, has brushed those rumours off and said there has been no official contact from the Jupiter Pro League outfit. The 71-year-old 2017 Afcon winner isn’t surprised to see his name in the news.

“So first of all, about Brugge, I only know that I’m a candidate there, and there is nothing more or nothing less than that,” Broos told local media during a Zoom press conference from Algeria.

“So I know that in the Belgian media, they spoke about it. But again, there is nothing for the moment, nothing at all.

“And I said already, after AFCON, and if you do such performances with the team, then automatically there is interest in you as a coach, and I heard the rumours that Algeria was interested, that Tunisia was interested, and some other teams, also Brugge now.

“But again, there are no negotiations, I didn’t see the people of Brugge, I know only that I’m on the list, I’m one of the candidates. So let’s see what happens in the future.

“And what I always answered on that question, is I have a contract till 2026 with South Africa. So if there is a moment that maybe I might leave or want to leave South Africa, then I still have to negotiate with the people of SAFA. So for the moment, it’s just rumours and nothing more.”
