A fire broke out with fans still in the stadium during the Sharks 45-5 win over Pau at Durban’s Kings Park on Saturday evening.

The blaze would be contained much to the relief of the patrons inside the ground and the Sharks organisation as a whole.

The mostly contained inferno, which sprung up on the southern stand of the 54 000-capacity arena, seemed to be electrical in nature, however there was no official confirmation of what caused it.

One social media video showed a stadium staff acting quickly, starting the extinguishing attempt nearly immediately.

Sharks management originally acknowledged to Sport24 that the fire was out in minutes and thereafter issued a brief statement via its media Whatsapp group stating that there would be no drama in that respect.

Furthermore, the team stated that “thankfully” no injuries were sustained in what is primarily a vacant section of the stadium on various match days.
