There was briefly a moment of real concern as a fire broke out at Kings Park in Durban shortly after Saturday’s Sharks match.

Soon after the Sharks won their opening encounter of the new Challenge Cup season by thrashing Pau 45-5 on Saturday evening, footage came to light of a small fire that broke out on the southern stand.

Thankfully the small blaze was quickly contained, with one video on social media showing a stadium employee acting quickly to extinguish the flames.
“Please note that the fire was contained almost immediately and thankfully there was no injuries sustained,” a Sharks spokesperson stated after the game.

When it came to the actual on-field action at Kings Park, Springboks Lukhanyo Am and Eben Etzebeth both scored two tries as the Sharks claimed a resounding and much needed victory after returning to their home ground.
