The Vodacom Bulls showed a ruthless streak as they launched their United Rugby Championship campaign with a 63-21 win over Scarlets at Loftus Versfeld.

Cameron Hanekom and Stedman Gans both scored a brace of tries as the Bulls ran in nine with fly-half Johan Goosen converting them all for a personal haul of 18 points.

Taine Plumtree went over twice on his Scarlets debut but the Welsh region were always second best.

Bulls v Scarlets: Player of the Match

Hanekom certainly caught the eye on his URC debut and was a willing carrier who showed he knows where the tryline is as he crashed over twice early in the game and was a key element of a dominant Bulls pack.

Play of the Match

Grobbelaar’s try demonstrated just how tough it is going to be to deal with the Bulls forwards this season as a driving maul forced Scarlets backwards and when they did play the ball, it was quickly moved from left to right to create the space for Grobbelaar to power over.
