On Saturday night, the Springboks completed a stunning comeback win over England in the Rugby World Cup semi-finals, a result largely inspired by the impact of Ox Nche.

The powerful prop came off the bench and won a series of scrum penalties that completely changed the momentum of the Test, with the final match-winning penalty having resulted from another three-pointer earned at the set piece.

Nche, who is a popular and colourful character, was widely celebrated after the game, with most onlookers clearly stating that he should have been the Man of the Match for the Springboks.

But Nche is also renowned for his wonderful sense of humour and his hot takes on food and his love of cake instead of salads.

“Salads do not win scrums. I truly believe that. That’s why Cheslin is on the wing and I’m in the front row,” Nche once famously said. “I don’t count calories, I count slices of cake. I enjoy a chocolate caramel.”

And as a show of appreciation for his heroics in the semi-final against England on Saturday night, Woolworths will sponsors all of Nche’s cake for the next year.

The retailer communicated this via it’s official X (formerly known as Twitter) account.

“Dear Ox, please reach out to us for a year’s supply of chocolate cake. After last night, it’s a South African priority.”
